About me

tl;dr Florian van der Galiën: Letting coding agents create things.

Here, I'll share who I am, what I do for a living, and what inspires me most.

Hi, I'm Florian van der Galiën.

I'm a 36-year-old web developer who loves working with Vue.js, Astro, Tailwind CSS, Bun, TypeScript, Supabase but also SQLite and Drizzle. Lately, I've been exploring AI-assisted agentic coding (embrace the vibe 😉)—having AI agents help me build things is pretty fun. I enjoy creating fast, modern web apps that work well and look good.

My 9 to 5

I work at TMT, the Bayreuth-based IT-, Internet- and media specialist with more than 50 colleagues covering managed IT, cyber security, enterprise networks, fiber internet, hosting, bespoke web services, design, digital signage, plus TV & video production.

Together with the Stadtwerke Bayreuth we run a regional fiber backbone that feeds our data centers and products like the AI knowledge platform iNFOFLOW, giving clients secure connectivity and cloud workflows end to end. I'm part of the Web Dev & AI unit, so my day-to-day is all about crafting modern websites, mobile apps, and AI solutions that merge TMT's creative and infrastructure teams.

As a Full Stack Developer, my day-to-day is about balancing solid Supabase-powered backends with the kind of frontend work that makes interfaces clear and accessible. Astro is my go-to for shipping fast projects, especially when I can mix Astro Islands with Vue components to keep things modular and maintainable. I spend a lot of time refining details—accessible color contrast, sensible focus states, and UI patterns that feel good to use—because a clean user experience is what keeps products useful after launch.

Outside the app layer, I like getting my hands dirty with infrastructure. Docker is my default for packaging services, and I keep a few personal VPS projects running just to try new setups. Exploring DevOps practices, wiring up CI pipelines, and automating GitLab workflows scratches the same itch as building a good UI—clean feedback loops and predictable deployments make the rest of the stack easier to trust.

Loving husband, father of two

In my personal life, I am a dedicated husband and a proud father of two wonderful children. My children bring an immense amount of joy and fulfillment to my life, and they are a constant reminder of what truly matters. My family is my source of inspiration and motivation, and they play a significant role in who I am both personally and professionally.

This is how I imagine my kids will be hacking things together when they're older.

My wife, once my best friend, is now my constant companion and the cornerstone of my life. Her support has been instrumental in my personal and professional growth. She challenges me, supports me, and inspires me in ways I never thought possible.

Thanks to my family, I am not only a better person, but also a better coder.

Skills

What I do for a living? Code.

Think of this grid as a peek into my daily toolkit—from sleek frontend frameworks to the databases, infra workflows, and AI copilots that keep everything humming. If it helps me ship fast and polish the craft, it probably lives here.
